ask-the-empire:

The Public Relations Department of the Galactic Empire would like to remind the public that Grand Admiral Thrawn is busy protecting the trillions of lives entrusted to him by our membership systems, and he does not have the time or inclination to answer questions regarding alleged personal habits.

jar jar binks is canon, and this guy is not, because life is unfair and we can’t have nice things. :(

Grand Admiral Mitth’raw’nuruodo.  I hate love his stupid face so much. Obviously I have to draw it.
Not entirely sure if I like this or not. I kinda gave up halfway through colouring/inking his uniform if it wasn’t obvious.
Ah well. All the more excuse to draw him again for practice.

Who is that blue man you call "your love"??

knightofphoenix:

Blue man?

That blue Chiss GOD is Mitth’raw’nuruodo. Otherwise known as Thrawn. Grand Admiral Thrawn. The greatest military mind in Star Wars, nay in fiction, and the head of the secret Empire of the Hand.

The main antagonist of the epic and legendary Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. My favorite Star Wars character BY FAR. Indeed, one of my favorite characters ever.

Oh don’t get me started on Thrawn. Don’t get me started on how he was able to besiege and blockade a capital planet using only a few asteroids with cloaking fields and decoy signals. Or how he was able to fool a planet into surrendering by making them think he bypassed its powerful shields. Or how he came up with the Thrawn pincer movement, with a creative use of the interdictor-class star destroyer.

Don’t get me started on his love of art, and his reliance on art in formulating his tactics and strategies. Don’t get me started on his style of command that is unique in the Empire. Don’t get me started on how he is a father to his men, and a man who dutifully wishes to ensure the greater good. On how his Empire of the Hand is not xenophobic and racist like the rest of the Galactic Empire.

The man who was about to bring the New Republic down, and rebuild the Empire into something better, more just, more efficient.

…”but, it was so artistically done”…

(well great anon, now I almost want to tear up)

With the whole Star Wars expanded universe now falling under this new ‘Legends’ banner, I thought it was only right that I pay tribute to some of the amazing characters that have kept Star Wars alive for me over the past 10-20 years.

While I’m eager to see what comes next for Star Wars, I’ll always have a special place for the EU and I hope that writers and fellow artists continue to keep these characters alive

shorelle:

so I just finished reading the Thrawn Trilogy and had to do a thing because wow Grand Admiral Thrawn was really great
I really appreciated how he was basically the exact opposite of Vader, yet made an incredibly badass antagonist and by the end I just wanted to see him continue throwing his military prowess against the New Republic and treating his subordinates with reasonable working conditions and holding Art Appreciation Thursdays
WE COULD HAVE HAD IT AALLLLLLL I mean what even was that ending sure it was fitting but STILL
